Writer James Gering sending a video message from Washington DC to the launch of the volume "The Universal Within the Local – An Australian-Romanian Poetic Dialogue with Mihai Eminescu". James Gering the writer of one of the two prefaces to the volume (the perspective of "the universal poet").
The volume, a bilingual anthology (English and Romanian), includes the poems recited at three "Eminescu Festivals" 2023, 2024, 2025 – in which poets from Sydney responded to curated thems and related poems by Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu.
The festivals have been organised by Poetry Sydney in cooperation with the Australian-Romanian Academy for Culture.
The curated themes and poems have been selected by writer and literary critic Daniel Ionita, President of the Australian-Romanian Academy for Culture.
The translations of the Mihai Eminescu poems were taken from the volume Testament – 400 Years of Romanian Poetry (Daniel Ionita, Daniel Reynaud, Adriana Paul, Eva Foster – with earlier contributions from Rochelle Bews – Minerva Publishing House, Bucharest 2019) – volume which received the "Antoaneta Ralian" Prize for Translation awarded by the Gaudeamus Bookfair 2019 in Bucharest, Romania. And also from the volume Romanian Poetry from its Origins to the Present (Australian Romanian Academy Publishing, Sydney 2020)
